Enteral hydration
engineered for the
ischemic gut.

Mimetic Applied Sciences is developing a novel enteral gel that targets an independent intestinal absorption pathway — designed to function under the splanchnic ischemia conditions where conventional oral rehydration fails.

Our ApproachPartner With Us
The Problem

Heat stroke disables the gut's primary hydration mechanism.

During exertional heat stroke, splanchnic blood flow is redirected to the skin for thermoregulation. The resulting intestinal ischemia compromises the sodium-dependent transport pathway that every existing oral rehydration solution relies on.

2,000+
Annual U.S. military heat casualties

Exertional heat illness is the leading preventable cause of death during military training.

80%
Reduction in splanchnic blood flow

Severe redistribution of blood flow during heat stroke creates critical intestinal ischemia within minutes.

Designed for this failure mode

Current oral rehydration solutions were not developed for — and have not been tested under — intestinal ischemia conditions.

Our Approach

A different transporter. A different pathway.

Mimetic Gel targets an independent intestinal absorption mechanism that operates through a distinct electrochemical driving force — not the sodium-dependent pathway that fails under ischemia.

Targeted Dipeptide Transport

Delivers a specific dipeptide substrate through an independent, proton-coupled absorption pathway that does not depend on the sodium gradient or cellular ATP at the transport step.

Precision-Metered Gel Format

A non-Newtonian hydrocolloid matrix engineered for controlled gastric release — eliminating the mixing errors, hygroscopic degradation, and dosing variability inherent in powdered ORS.

Dual-Function Cytoprotection

Beyond hydration, the formulation is designed to support intestinal epithelial barrier integrity through a specific molecular cascade — addressing the gut permeability crisis that drives systemic complications in heat stroke.

Enteral Alternative to IV Access

In prolonged field care, mass casualty, and austere environments, IV access is often rate-limiting or unavailable. Mimetic Gel provides an oral-enteral path to fluid resuscitation without medical training or sterile equipment.

Applications

From the battlefield to the field hospital.

Designed first for military heat casualties, with dual-use potential across civilian emergency medicine, occupational health, and athletics.

Primary

Military Operations

Prolonged field care, combat medic kits, pre-hospital heat casualty management, and mass casualty logistics reduction.

Near-Term

Civilian EMS & Emergency

First-responder administered enteral hydration for heat emergencies where IV access is delayed or unavailable.

Expansion

Athletic & Occupational

Endurance athletes, wildland firefighters, agricultural workers, and industrial heat exposure environments.
